Monthly Archive for August, 2003
I already told Prezentz this but I’ll recap for the rest of the people.
Today was interesting. I worked, then had lunch at Gina’s. My friend Prakash and I shared a Chicekn Palermo pizza and some garlic bread. Oh yes, before that we went to CompUSA so I could get a price adjustment on my speakers. I got such a great deal on them. Prakash tried to get some bu they were, expectedly, sold out.
Then after lunch we had a developer meeting where they talked about our new product. Exciting stuff. They tried to demo it but the other user couldn’t hear the instructions too well. All worked out out at the end. Then I worked a bit and then Prakash and I went downtown to Autozone. He needed a gas cap and I needed a wiper blade refill. Both of us left empty handed. I was very low on gas and decided to wing it, so I went all the way back to the Shell by my house. I ended up with 0.08 gallons left. That’s just INSANE! I hope that never happens again.
After work, Prakash and I went downtown to Copeland’s Sports. I got a pair of nice Tevas. They are for my rafting trip tomorrow. Then we had dinner at Spice Avenue. It is an Indian restaurant. We had the buffet and mango lasee (yougurt drink). Our waitress (KB?) was really cute. YUMMY.
Then we went to the Nissan dealer where Prakash test drove a 2003 Altima. It’s a pretty good ride. Reminds me of Camry and Accord. The salesperson was a new guy. Not really that good. Before we left, he handed Prakash a total change in the deal. Like dropped 1000’s of dollars. It was rediculous!
That’s it. River rafting and camping next two days.
Today, Pete Sampras is going to announce his retirement at the U.S Open tonight. You can find all sorts of information about this on all the major news websites, but I just wanted to take the time to bring attention to how truly great a player he was. He definitely made the game better in every regard.
Sampras has been the same reserved and methodical player throughout his
career, no matter how many tournaments he won or records he set. Which
achievement will stand longest? His record 14 Grand Slam titles? His seven
Wimbledon titles? His six straight years as the year-end No. 1 player in the
world? It’s the latter that Sampras might be proudest of, because it
bespeaks an entire philosophy of the game, tennis as ethic. He wasn’t just
great, he was dependably great. He never tanked, never ducked a commitment
and struck every ball with serious intent. His work habits were equal to his
talent.
didn’t really do much this weekend. after work on friday, i had to head home to get my bro food. basically relaxed and played w/ scooter (my new dog fyi) for most of the night. saturday, i woke up early to take my dog to the vet to get his next set of shots. on the way back, my brother and i picked up his gf so that they could hang out. (what a great bro i am) i got us some shakas for lunch and i spent most of the rest of the day just relaxin in front of the tv. sunday i stayed off the road in the morning cause my bro was learning how to drive. shortly after, i drove home where i played some mafia, watched some tv, and chatted w/ friends online. not a very exciting weekend. totally cool though cause i’ve been going out w/ friends every weekend for the last month or so. it’s nice to not have to do anything hehe. hopefully next weekend, the girl i’ve been hitting on will FINALLY go out w/ me. i’ll have to juggle my time a bit though cause i’ll be moving back to LA that same weekend… oh well, i’ll figure something out
till tomorrow
This weekend was a lot of fun. On Saturday, I didn’t do much until mid afternoon. I woke up and found that CrapUSA had some really fancy speakers on sale for $40. So I drove there and was expecting a fight because I heard alot of other people had problems. So I found they had not one but three sets left. I grabbed one and hightailed to the cashier. She was ringing me up when I asked her if I could come back and do a price adjustment because the next day (today, Sunday ) there would be a 25% off coupon on computer speakers. She talked to her manager and she came back and said yes. She rang me up $39.99 and I left. Easy as pie. I was quite surprised.
Then my friends from Orange County, Steve and Macy, came up. They took showers and we watched tv for a bit. Then we drove downtown to the Palace. There we met two girls (Macy’s friend from college and her sister), and then later on Macy’s little sister, mom, and grandma showed up. We waited in line for at least 1.5 hours. It was a very long time. When we finally got a seat, they put 8 on a table meant for 4. I thought it’d be impossible to pull off but it worked just fine. We had 3 sampler platters and Mimi (the grandma) got pumpkin pecan pie and crabcakes. We had great conversation and it was fun watching Steve and Jackie (Macy’s sister) horse around. The meal ended with Macy’s awesome mom paying for the meal!!! That’s like $35 saved right there!
Then we walked to the corner and talked for at least half an hour. I was getting really tired at this point and needed to pee but I didn’t want to interrupt so I just sat there and listened. Then we came home and Macy went to sleep right away. He was really tired I guess. Steve and I talked and amazingly my roommate Matt came home. I was expecting him to spend the night clubbing but alas, he did not. Oh well.
Today, Sunday, we packed up some gear and went up the 154 into the forest. We met my coworker Matt and his friend Taylor up there and had some fun shooting. Afterward we went downtown to a great Mexican restaurant. The food was good but I think too pricey. I won’t be going there regularly. There were a handful of cute girls there so that made for some good eye candy. Then I came home and showered and took a quick nap. Then now Matt and Kelly are cooking stirfry. Yah! Dinner for me!
What did you guys do?
