SBIFF 2006 – Hidden Blade

Aaron, Nick, Michelle, Kelly, and I went to see Hidden Blade (or Kakushi-ken: oni no tsume). We met a pretty cool couple in line. Apparently, this is the second in director Yamada’s trilogy of samurai movies.

This is not a typical sword wielding moving at all. In fact, there is almost no swordplay til the end. It’s a love story and a good one at that. The dialogue between the actors are effective in conveying emotions. We can all identify with the awkwardness of it all.

I might write a longer review later. I wasn’t that impressed with the movie. I don’t regret watching it but I don’t think I’ll rush out for the DVD. I give it 3/5 stars.
