Tech Gurus Say They’ll ‘Switch from Mac’

With the new kid on the block, Ubuntu, rapidly rising in the download ranks, longtime Mac gurus are pondering the switch, citing Apple’s proprietary and sometimes faulty file and database formats as a primary cause.

Playing on Apple’s past “Switch” ad campaign, which was aimed at getting Windows users to migrate to Apple’s Mac OS X-based computers, a few longtime Mac and open-source gurus are vocally publicizing their switch away from Apple’s platform to more open-source solutions.

  • For the record, I’ll take Linux over Mac OS X, and anything over Windows. Haven’t tried Ubuntu yet.

  • I develop both on Ubuntu and OS X. I love both. Although the Current Ubuntu GUI can’t compete with OS X YET, it’s definitely up there and growing in popularity/OS development. The Unix env on the Mac is awesome and is where I spend the majority of my time. I have an apache/tomcat environment up and running on it. There ARE definitely still set backs but none that would make me switch fully to Ubuntu yet.
