NYC’s LOOK Bicycle Safety Campaign

Working pro-bono, Publicis, a Seattle-based ad agency worked with the NYC Department of Transportation to create an ad campaign, called LOOK,  to increase both driver and cyclist awareness in the city.  This follows the release of the 2006 report (PDF) which analyzed fatalities and serious injuries of cyclists in the city – the first of it’s kind.  Nearly 3500 bicyclists were injured by cars between 1996 and 2003, with 225 killed.  Using a multi-pronged approach, the campaign hopes to reduce this number drastically.  There are some interesting and provocative postcards and posters for download on the site as well as plans from city planners to double the number of bike lanes and experimental concepts such as physically separated bike lanes.
